Head to a café

One of our favourite things to do on a lazy weekend is to relax at a great café eating yummy food and drinking coffee. Now you can do it easily with your pooch in tow, at the Wolf & Hound café in Flemington, Melbourne. Not only will you have the opportunity to treat yourself to their delicious menu, there is also a secure tie-up station attached to the concrete front of the cafe, with a metal water bowl and cosy doggie blankets for winter cuddling plus some dog treats for your favourite friend.

Explore a local market

If you live near the beach in Sandringham or don’t mind a drive, it’s so worth it to head down to the Bayside Farmers Market that’s on every third Saturday of the month, rain, hail or shine! Bring your pet to marvel at the farm fresh produce with over 80 stalls including everything from fresh fruit and veg, dog treats, meat, herbs and even coffee.

The market is held just off Beach Road at Trey Bit Reserve, Jetty Road, Sandringham Vic 3191 Melways 76 F8.

Visit their website Bayside Farmers Market for more information.

Go on a hike

There’s plenty of great places to hike in Melbourne and regional Victoria that allow your pets to be walked both on and off their leashes. Get back to nature by heading to The Otway National Park (only around 1.5km from the CBD). Another option is to head to Geelong’s The You Yangs State Park, which have an extensive range of walking tracks from a short 3km walk to longer paths. If you don’t want too walk to far, try Albert Park Lake or The Boulevard in Moonee Ponds for more local and beautiful dog-friendly walking tracks.

For more information on dog friendly walks, call Parks Victoria 13 19 63 or visit their website.

Have a weekend away

Sometimes we all need to escape the inner city of Melbourne to wind down and recharge, and there’s no better way to do it than with our pets by our side. Head to Healesville and the Yarra Valley for plenty of pet friendly accommodation including the Lavender Farm House that is great for pets and families and close to local attractions and walking tracks. If you like to spend your time outdoors go camping at the Marengo Holiday Park with stunning views over the water, just above Apollo Bay on the border of the Otway National Park. The best part? There’s a dog off-leash beach just around the corner at Marengo Beach!
